October 5, 2017 — Attorney Evan Fisher has joined the Augusta-based law firm Lipman & Katz. His legal background includes experience in municipal law and in criminal law as both a prosecutor and as a defense attorney. He joins the firm that also handles a wide range of cases in personal injury, motor vehicle accidents, family law, business law, employment law, wills and estates, and real estate law.
“All of us at Lipman & Katz are excited to welcome Evan to our team of attorneys,” said Karen Boston, president and attorney at Lipman & Katz. “He has a strong background in appellate, criminal, and municipal law, and also understands the value of a community as demonstrated by his work with several organizations. We are also excited about the opportunity he will have to connect with community members in the Kennebec Valley by becoming involved in civic activities and providing presentations about legal topics.”
As a municipal lawyer, he served as assistant city attorney for North Texas communities of all sizes, advising city staff, boards and commissions, law enforcement, and other municipal officials. He has drafted ordinances, provided legal opinions to governing bodies, drafted and reviewed contracts, responded to public information requests, and developed best practices in his previous client cities. Fisher also has extensive experience with planning and zoning, substandard structure abatement, and other aspects of land use law.
Fisher has practiced law for more than five years in Texas. As a litigator in his previous practice, he represented several cities in complex litigation and appeals. He also authored a successful amicus brief to the Texas Supreme Court on behalf of the Texas Association of Appraisal Districts and successfully argued many appeals of criminal and civil cases. Prior to joining Lipman & Katz, Fisher has handled thousands of pretrial conferences and successfully taken dozens of cases to trial.
"Lipman & Katz is one of the most highly regarded law firms in Maine. I am excited to join this firm that has such a strong presence and deep community roots in central Maine. I am proud to make Maine my home and be part of the Lipman & Katz team,” said Fisher.
Fisher earned his J.D. from the University of Minnesota School of Law and his undergraduate degree from University of Texas at Tyler. He lives in Belgrade with his wife, Stephanie, who is a physician at MaineGeneral.
