On November 16, 2017, Lipman & Katz attorney Karen Boston and Taylor, McCormack & Frame attorney Ilse Teeters-Trumpy presented together at the 2017 Maine State Bar Association Legal Year in Review at the Augusta Civic Center. The presentation about family law was part of the day-long conference for Maine attorneys.
As part of the presentation, Karen Boston reviewed several Maine Supreme Judicial Court cases related to family law in Maine in 2017. Many cases in the presentation involved parental rights or child custody, protection from abuse, child support, contempt, primary residence, spousal support, and other divorce economic issues such as non-marital property. The two attorneys also discussed recent statutes and amendments that impact family law in Maine related to birth certificates, background checks and the repeal of the “sunset provision” of the guardian ad litem statute.
The 2017 Maine State Bar Association Legal Year in Review also included several other presentations related to real estate law, torts and insurance, trusts and estates, criminal law and environmental law. The annual event was an opportunity for legal professionals to network with colleagues. The event was produced by the Maine State Bar Association’s Continuing Legal Education Committee.
